I took delivery of my Subaru Legacy 2.0GT on 16th Nov 2010 with mileage of 64000km. Before I drove of, the dealer said they’ll repair any mechanical fault of the car within a month’s time. On 27th Nov 2010, after 10 days of driving the car, the piston blown and con rod broken hitting a few holes on the engine block. The engine stalled with smoke coming out from the car bonnet when I was travelling on the Malaysia NSHW and imagined that I was driving at 110km/h, it would endanger my life with the sudden blown off of the engine and brake was then not functioning well after 2-3 steps on it. I called the dealer; he suggested towing the car back to Singapore and I paid RM1,000 at my own expense to tow the car back.
The car was towed to Lim Tan Motor and the total repair cost is $9K+ as they have to literally replace the whole engine. When I went back to the dealer, they keep delaying/not answering my call and in the end denied the responsibility. I called up LTA to enquire my new road tax disc only found out that the money I paid to them on Nov 11 to renew the road tax apparently didn’t reach LTA till Dec 8. They took my money for almost a month and did nothing!
I am now in the process of filing my claims to Small Claims Tribunal hoping to get a reasonable refund from the car dealer.
How can Singapore tolerate this kind of unscrupulous and irresponsible car dealer that sells not road-worthy cars to road users?
